about
'The Conversation' is my debut single. I wrote 'The Conversation' while in my first year of post-secondary school. It is a song about feeling hesitant about pursuing a goal that really frightens me; in my case working towards becoming a musician. ‘The Conversation’ came to life in the Fall of 2020 with vocal harmonies by friend and roommate Grace Clark, and production and instrumental arrangement by bandmate Cole Senger.
lyrics
And the whole world is pulling at these strings
They're all out of tune
I wouldn’t bother
The sound is so loud
I can’t hear anything
So I retreat back
Into the water
Here comes a revolution
You evaluate all the good
And all the bad
Oh I think I’ve caught a bad case
of hesitation
And I know it’s going to
Drive me mad
The whole wide world
Never seemed so close
Oh at least that’s what I
Have been told
So with the stars
I have a conversation
I depend on that
Navigation
This is hollow but it's whole
And it’s screaming out
My name
I got lost to the toss and the turn
Of the waves
And I got thrown back out insane
Should I catapult my body
Across that deep black ink
I’m afraid to settle for any comfort
And I’m afraid to lose sight
So I don’t blink
The whole wide world
Never seemed so close
Oh at least that’s what I have been told
So with the stars
I have a conversation
I depend on that navigation
What compels you to move
Are you afraid to lose a constant race
I’ll dip down deep below the surface
And let time fall
In and out of place

Excellent production doesn't drown out the indie sound, but does provide a fascinating opposing force that gives the album diversity & shape. Alex Niederberger
